Biography

Dr. Derek Smith was raised in Abilene, Texas and is a graduate of Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. After completing a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry at Trinity University, he completed a dual degree program at Texas Tech University, earning both MD and MBA degrees. He pursued further specialized training in Emergency Medicine by completing a residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. After residency training, Dr. Smith moved back to West Texas to begin working at the region’s only Level 1 Trauma Center at UMC in Lubbock where he has a faculty appointment with Texas Tech and continues to train new Emergency Medicine Physicians.
