Perform duties in the capacity of the Emergency Department Clerk, Nurse Aide, and financial collections services for the Emergency Department.

Responsibilities
- Verify insurance, collect payments, copayments, deductibles, and/or appropriate financial arrangements while adhering to EMTALA guidelines.
- Assist in the Emergency Department with Emergency Department Unit Clerk duties and responsibilities.
- Perform required tasks without prompting and adjust appropriately to situations.
- Communicates positively and respectfully to coworkers, patients, physicians, and others.
- Adherent to the attendance policy.
- Follow district and department policies.
- Attend required meetings and in-services.
- Participate in Hospital District Safety Program and QA Programs.
- Use time and resources wisely.
- Maintain HIPAA, keeping patient and hospital confidentiality.
- Maintain adequate supplies of items needed to perform job; order or report low items to supervisor.
- Practice proper phone etiquette, identification of self and department.
- Register ER patients. Secure and verify necessary demographics, contact information, payment information, billing, and insurance information.
- Assist physicians and nursing staff to care for clients of all ages (neonate <1yr, Child/Pediatric 1-11yrs, Adolescent 12-17yrs, Adult 18-55yrs and geriatric >55yrs) throughout the facility while communicating positively and respectfully.
- Report important facts, observations, or adverse events regarding patients, guests, or self to supervisor immediately.
- Answers multi-line telephone, routing calls and providing messages.
- Assist with printing patient education materials, pertinent ancillary reports for patients/Nursing Staff during patient stay and at discharge.
- Assist with schedule follow up appointments at discharge for patients.
- Assisting with patient transfers.
- Assist with cleaning rooms between patients after discharge in a timely manner.
- Informs nursing staff of pertinent information regarding patient care and procedures from ancillary departments.
- Communicate patient status, pending orders and information during transfers, at change of shift, and as needed.
- Assist with notification to Central Supply of needed supplies for the unit, stocking supplies in patients’ rooms, and cleans and prepares surgical instruments for sterilization.
- Assures that each patient receives quality care.
- Assist with personal care according to individual needs including bathing, perineal care, and grooming, oral care as condition warrants and as directed, feeding patient, and collecting specimens.
- Assist in keeping the patient’s room neat and tidy, patients dry and free of secretions and answers call lights promptly.
- Maintains accurate and timely records according to hospital policy and procedures. Takes and records vital signs, weight, and length measurements.
- Perform glucose monitoring.
- Performs basic life support skills in an emergency and provides assistance with the code team.
- Assists physician, ER clerk, and nursing staff with patient care.
- Provides respect to patients, family, and co-workers.
- Includes patients in decision making.
- Performs proper body substance isolation when handling potentially infectious materials or direct contact. Avoids unnecessary exposure during care.
- Assists in the transportation of patients.
- Other duties as assigned.
Professional Education Requirements
- High School Graduate or Equivalent.
- BLS
- Nova Strip Glucose Monitoring Certificate
- Certified Nursing Aide preferred.
Skill Requirements
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Computer proficiency.
