What is the DAISY Award?
The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 by the family of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick was diagnosed with, and ultimately passed away from, complications of the auto-immune disease Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP). During the eight weeks his family spent at the hospital with Pat, they were impressed by the incredible kindness and compassion of the nurses who cared for him. Creating the DAISY Award was their way of honoring Pat’s memory while recognizing those nurses who go above and beyond the call of duty to care for and comfort patients and families.
DAISY Award nominees show clinical dedication and unrelenting compassion for the patients in their care and the families that surround them. Seminole Hospital District is proud to have a part in honoring these much deserving nurses. Each month, a DAISY Award recipient will be recognized in their respective care unit and will receive:
• a certificate
• a DAISY Award pin
• A Healer’s Touch stone sculpture
